i have KRK's and for the price they work. mids can get muddy at times. but the low end is tight.
been lookin into a pair of second hand mackie hr624 for main referance. and use the KRK's for teh turntables.

I suppose you mean the RP series? (and not the V). I got myself a pair of KRK RP8's recently, thought it was a good set to start up my production game with. I probably still need to get used to them and play around with their placement, as I've noticed that I always put too much low in my mixdowns now. (but it sounds so damn good on them!  Bad Teeth ) I think it's one of the most popular sets for bedroom producers in NL, I only heard good things about them on the dutch forums so thats why I decided to go with these. And at around 250eur a piece they were quite affordable Smiley

alesis m1 active mk2?? are they good for dnb?

i used the active mk2 for almost 3 years and produced most of my tracks on them , including all my 19 vinyl and few digital releases so far Smiley really good choice for the price as they have good bottom , but nothing like clear hi end and mids ...
switched to Dynaudio BM6 last november and it makes really big difference in the clear sound and powerful output - shaking my pants and wobbling the floor in the studio hehe
my production get way much clearer and deeper in details as i was able to hear much more details in the sound and compared to the alesis i can say its almost like comparing monitor sound to hi fi sound , but at the end of the day its not what u use , but how u use it and how much you are used to it Smiley heard the Adam 7 at friend of mine and they sounds awsome , especially for the hi and mid end ... need sub for my needs and how i am getting the right low end at home , but probably the p11 gonna be the tits !!!
I am also using some weird 10 euro plastic pig radio with audio input to check levels and sounds on mono and the worst possiable speaker i can find around...also mobile phones , laptops and crap headphones are good to get some use when u want to be sure your tunes sounds the same everywhere Wink also the low cut on that stuff brings u lots of info for your bass harmonies sometimes , but at the end there's nothing better from checking your tunes out in club with good soundsistem and with proper audience  Slayer

yea man i use mobile phones and shitty speakers for refrencing -  gotta be done, its crazy some of the frequencies that stand out or levelling problems u unearth by just using a different system or speakers.... Tongue

im pretty sure im just about to buy the adams a7's (like tonight!!) but im worried about the ribbon tweeters - how easy are rthese to fuck up/repair etc...? if so whats a good alternative sound and money wise? i'm looking at some genelecs but want the adams - they're so damn sexy!!

like c-o-oh said: adam rocks the place!

things bout adam quality is different. the shop where i buy my equipment said that they normally do not have problems bout older adam models like p11, newer models like a5 or a7 would make more problems. BUT: i was one of the people having problems with a p11, the amplifier was blown away without overdriving it, technical burnthrough (dunno how to describe it better in english, sorry), to this case i have to say. the warrenty was absoluteley fresh, fat, even if it was bout some weeks before its ending. they just put a new amplifier in it, within 5 days. no more problems and all was good.
another thing is that my shop told me in this case that adam would be really culant so they actually sometimes still take it was warrenty case even if the time is over (for some weeks or so). so this is a pretty cool philosphy for a company in my opinion! and this is something i really appreciate!

cheers

p.s: monitors of a higher category are like a music prgrams, some love cubase, other abletone, others reason and so on!

so i took the plunge and bought the genelec 8030a's. also a pair of beyer dynamic dt150s for flat response monitoring headphones. I also bought a second computer monitor and a new desk with mult-teers so it basically all looks ultra sexyalicious Wink

geezer a digital village sorted my out sweet as well Slayer

now im just drinking beers and listinging to some well produced tunes to get the characeristics n that.

i didnt trust the adams a7s and genelecs just seemed like the better option for me, and im pretty much in love with my new set up - new m audio soundcard as well, a pair of cheap edirol monitors to crossreference with and a fresh inspiratiuon to make music with new gear...its a lovely feeling!

Anyone tried Adam A7's or Genelec 8020A's?

I have had my A7's since March and i am so glad i went for these Smiley  I upgraded from some KRK RP 8's and the difference is massive. The A7's sound so precise and clear in comparison. As mentioned before they do lack in the low end a slight bit, but i have a small rookm so this isn't such an issue for me, as a sub would be serious over kill in there. They look great like the speakers Darf Vader would use if he decided to make some beats.

I would reckomend them to any one looking for speakers in that range, as they sound as good as some speakers that cost more than they do they are also great value for money.

My production improved, especially mixdowns directly as a result of buying these speakers, i know people say that a bad workman blames his tools and all that but if said workman has the right tools then it is of course going to improve his work !!

just my 2p's worth Smiley

so i've had a couple of weeks working with the genelec 8030s and so  far im really pleased.

there was more bass response than i counted on, but the (really fiddly + annoying) eqs on the back managed to make them sit nicer in the context of my room accoustics....also helped by buying loads of masssive pillows and soft furnishings.

im really impressed with the the layering qualities of the genelecs; its so easy to pick out the compound parts of a mix and also amazed by the clarity of the whole spectrum. To be honest im still getting used to them - i was using hifi speakers (really shit ones at that) for 18 months, but i've mixed a couple of tunes on them and there sounding so much better and amazed at some of the dodgy frequencies cropping up in some old mixes lol.

i find them really easy to work with for long periods as well which is testament to the high production values of genelec imo, although i've heard the adamas a7s are even better to work with for long periods due to the ridiculous high end response.

so yea, im happy Smiley the monitors are compact as well as loud and detailed/clear and the isopod standings that come with them are very sturdy and do well to remove some vibration/reflective noises.

still cant get my second computer monitor working tho lol Undecided Cry

i am also using an adam p11 and i am in total love with those monitors. i think the p11 is a multitalent for electronic music... specially for technoid dnb. but as to every monitor... you really have to get used to it and that takes a long time...........................................
p11 Slayer

cheers

quote all!! i've got them and are really great monitors

...but i'm curious to try the p22  Grin
