but i just had to give them to a professional sound enginier that is making sick stuff with tubes and his own speakers brand , so now i have them more acurate and presized ... its like zooming into the sound now !
but that speakers kills it as default too !!!

I'm looking for some new monitors I can use for mixing & production.. they gotta have some punch yet have a clear sound.
Thinking about getting some yamaha hs 80's, and I'm pretty sure its a solid choice. Has anyone had experience with
these or other monitors in that price range?

i think hs 80 are great monitors for their price, i heard many good reviews and i am also thinking to buy them, better than alesis m1 mk2 i think, yamahas have better, cleaner sound than alesis! but i want to hear somebody who produce dnb on hs80 to tell something about them!!

I don't know much about monitors but I've been dabbling in production for about 5 years now and recently I have been getting focussed on mixdowns, so I have decided I really need a decent pair of monitors.

I thought the whole point of monitors was to produce flat frequency responses, in order to get a correct mixdown, instead of making a mixdown on a system that is going to be changing the frequencies in its own way?

Why then, should different monitors sound good for producing different genres, and why would you want them to amplify the bass in dnb? Surely thats the job of the system in the club!?

Maybe I'm being stupid but if someone could explain I would be greatful.

I was also looking at the Alesis m1 active mk2, would it be worth paying the extra £100 or so for the Yamaha HS-80's?

I dont think there are speakers that are more suited towards a style, but generally bigger speakers can output more bass, so i suppose that would make them better for dance tunes.
Having said that, a speaker with bigger sub isnt automatically better than a smaller one. Whilst hearing the actual sound would help when producing, simply knowing how a speaker behaves with a sound would be sufficient. Many professionals use the Alesis, and make great music. I use em too, but i doubt Alesis would want to advertise it with marching bands etc..
